So as it currently stands the Tyrannic war crusade battles are the only Crusade publication to use but we’ve already seen the Necron themed Pariah Nexus is on it’s way. (If you haven’t already watched the Pariah Nexus animation on Warhammer+ then I would recommend you do).
When it comes to setting up for a Crusade game we can follow along a simple check list in order of how to set up our game.
- Select Battle Size (we are starting at 1,000points) It is up to the players to agree this before the battle.
- Muster the army and select the Planet – Use your Order of Battle to assembly your forces and discuss with your opponent which of the Auril Sector planet’s this battle will take place in to wrestle control from an opposing faction, if the players can’t decide then a roll off will settle it.
- Determine Mission – Randomised or selected mission from those available in the Crusade pack.
- Determine the Attacker and Defender – You could roll with the winner deciding or if something fits more thematically then you are absolutely free to do so.
- Read your mission objectives – Lots of variation will be had across the many battleplans so make sure you’ve given it a fair look over before you start.
- Place Objectives – Using our battleplan deploy as shown.
- Create the battlefield – Either alternating terrain pieces with your opponent or building something thematic for you to battle over.
- Purchase Requisitions -Any pre-game requisitions? Now’s the time. If it upgrades make sure you update your Army roster and add appropriate crusade points.
- Select Agendas – Each player chooses 2 secret agendas. Once selected for both they can reveal to each other.
- Select Crusade Blessings – As discussed in our previous post you might be “Blessed” by being the underdog. These will vary from mission pack to mission pack.
- Declare battle formations – Make note of where the leaders will attach, transports taken and any reserves and reveal to your opponent at the same time.
- Deploy those units BAYBE!!! – Alternate deployment beginning with the defender.
- Determine first turn – Unless the mission says otherwise it’s the classic roll off and whoever wins WILL go first.
- Resolve the pregame – Any scout or such rules shenanigans happen now.
- Smash up. – Play the game
- It’s over awww – It’s 5 battle rounds, if a player is tabled before then the other player may continue to score up until the end of the final turn.
- Determine Winner – 10vp for a painted army. Maximum score of 100vp achievable. The winner of the mission can then claim the Victor bonus as described in the mission. If the game is drawn neither claim the bonus.
- Update Crusade Cards – Rank up, add scars or even get destroyed it all happens now, if ranks were gained battle honours and crusade points can be updated immediately.
- Update Order of Battle – The final part, Increase your battle tally by 1 your requisition by 1 and make notes of any important action from your game.
Wow that was a block of text and of course not one to remember but it helps you see what a game of Crusade is going to look like, to note is that I would love you to make important points of action that happened in your game and submit battle reports and pictures to jim@aurilcrusade.com so we can continue to add content to our website. I will work on a format so people can submit these easily to use.
Tomorrow we are going to have a look at the Auril Sector’s Planets and how we can gain Control of them and the Sector.
Keep on Crusading
Jim
